Frame - Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Frame Amsterdam, also known as the 'Golden Lighthouse', is a complex consisting of 28 owner-occupied flats and restaurant Karaat (500m2). Built at the head of the Haparandadam, read; the most beautiful and distant viewpoint of the Houthaven. It grants residents a magnificent panorama of Amsterdam and the IJ. To preserve this special fact, there was a very specific wish: to completely hide the sun protection from view.

SolidScreens

In close cooperation between Metaglas and Aluminium Verkoop Zuid B.V., Methermo®XL vertical sliding windows and specially developed SolidScreens were installed. This completely fulfilled the client's wish. The windows and sun protection systems are electronically controlled and can be operated simultaneously or separately, without obstructing the view.

'A relief to have sun protection systems installed, during sunny days it can get quite warm here. The windows can be opened and with the screens down we retain the beautiful view and still get fresh air inside,' said a resident of Frame Amsterdam.

The apartment complex appears to be composed of stacked cubes. The striking exterior is clad in specially developed gold tiles. The tiles pick up the outside light beautifully, from bright yellow-gold during the day to bronze in the evening. 'The colour of the window frames and casing of the SolidScreens are matched to this, this whole thing creates gold-rimmed paintings, so to speak.

Century-old craft and new architecture come together here in a new, iconic mix, in Amsterdam's former Houthaven.
